Mental Management

Mental health is a trending topic in today’s society.

It’s being talked about as if it’s a new paradigm. It’s not new.

Mental health is not new. God has been talking about it. The mind is talked about quite a bit throughout the Bible.

God, as our Creator, gave us—His creation, instructions regarding our mental state. It seems His creation has ignored the importance of mental health and how it affects one’s life. Unfortunately, this ignorance has cost many human lives, young and old. For others it has caused a lot of trauma.

For humanity, the mind seems to be the most neglected part, but for God it is the most important part.

This is why God put so much emphasis on the mind in His Handbook, the Bible.

In Ephesians 4:22 -24 AMP Paul says, “regarding your previous way of life, you put off your old self [completely discard your former nature], which is being corrupted through deceitful desires, 23 and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude], 24 and put on the new self [the regenerated and renewed nature], created in God’s image, [godlike] in the righteousness and holiness of the truth [living in a way that expresses to God your gratitude for your salvation].”

These instructions were written for believers, not sinners. This proves the point that the Christian experience does not affect the mind or body. Paul let it be known that God addressed your spirit, but your mind and body are your responsibility.

You have to master and manage your mind.

God is not going to do this for you. He dealt with your spirit. Now it is up to you to do something with your mind. Your life, today, is a manifestation of your thought life. Who you are, what you are, how you are, and what you do are all results of what you have thought or are thinking now. If your mind is healthy, you will make healthy relational decisions.

Whatever you meditate, you will manifest.

In Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:1-2, scripture instructs us to meditate on God’s word day and night, and then it tells us the results from doing this. In order for you to manifest the life God promised, you have to meditate on it. This is mental management.

The root of any dysfunction is a malfunctioning mindset.

Ephesians 4:23 says, “be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude].”

If someone does surgery on your head, they will see your brain, but they will not see your mind. That’s because it’s spiritual. You can’t see a person’s thoughts, but you can see the manifestation of their thoughts.

Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.”

Your life is a product of the thoughts you think.

To change your life, your thinking has to change. To change your relational status, your thoughts about relationships have to change. You have to change your mind. You have to engage in mental fitness, not just physical fitness.

In school, we had P.E. class which stood for physical education. We were taught on physical health but nothing on mental health. Physical fitness is good and it is important to help keep your body healthy. However, mental health is even more important. Mental fitness is necessary.

A major part of a healthy dating relationship is mental management. Scripture tells us in James that a double-minded man is unstable in all of his ways.

If you are unstable mentally, you will be unstable relationally.

You must have the right mindset for a healthy relationship with your mate.
